Can D. Howard force Orlando to do a sign and trade to LA like Melo did in New York?

I think he will not have as much leverage as Melo. The Knicks had the cap room to sign Melo to a max deal. Whereas right now the Lakers at most will be able to give him a mid-level exception. Nets are also the only team who can give him a max deal so I am sure that he would be more likely to accept a sign and trade to a contender as opposed to sign to the Nets.
