Getting a stuck filter off an engine?

I tried to get a hydraulic filter off my lawn mower and it wouldn't move at all. I tried one of those things from an auto parts store and that didn't even work. The access is ok, but def not ideal. Im laying on the ground doing it, so not good leverage. Any ideas?
