Can Battle Fader negate a direct attack?

Now in the Ruling is says the card moves the opponent straight to the End Phase, does that mean the opponent's monster's attack went through and you just summoned the monster simply to skip phases or what? if it did negate the direct attack, wouldn't this card apply better than Winged Kuriboh?
