I've made a home made DJ mixing board before, out of some sheets of acrylic, plywood, laser cutter/heat gun, some paint, knobs, transistors/capacitors and wires I purchased from Radio Shack. Of course the general hardware tools such as knife, screws, screwdrivers, bolts, soldering setup, etc. are necessary, but you have to be able to identify the electronics parts in order to successfully build a mixer on your own at home.
