My friends laptop will not load past the start up screen it loads the desktop then freezes.?

Control alt. Delete wont even work. She has all the sounds and a fader she needs to run sound for a play and the showing start in 4 days. What all can she do to get it back working? The fader program wont work in safe mode. She has also tried uninstalling a few programs that might have caused the problem but nothing seems to work. Help plz!
